Prime For Life ®
A Prevention Research Institute® Program
The Prime For Life ® curriculum was developed by the Prevention Research Institute® in Kentucky in 1984, and has since become a nationwide program for DUI intervention and prevention. It is also used as a preventative measure for at-risk youth who have become involved in drug use or alcohol use at an early age. The evidence-based program was developed to enhance and save lives, and it has been shown to significantly reduce drinking in adults and teens within six months of taking the program. Prime For Life® has been on the National Registry of Effective Programs and Practices (NREPP) since 2010.
From the Prevention Research Institute’s® website,
Prime For Life ® is an evidence-based motivational prevention, intervention and pretreatment program specifically designed for people who might be making high-risk choices. This includes but is not limited to impaired driving offenders, college students, and young people charged with alcohol and/or drug offenses. It is designed to change drinking and drug use behaviors by changing beliefs, attitudes, risk perceptions, motivations, and the knowledge of how to reduce their risk of alcohol and drug related problems throughout their lives. Because Prime For Life ® includes both prevention and intervention content, it is also designed in a way that serves universal, selective, and indicated audiences with program delivery options for each.
The Diversion Center has been a certified Prime For Life ® provider since 2009, and we offer the 8-hour class online. We do everything we can to keep the classes interesting, educational, and respectful so that we can do our part in changing lives for the better.
